As far back as the War in Vietnam in the mid-1960s, no war has generated more images --- videos, photos, cartoons, memes and graphic illustrations --- than Israel’s thoroughly obscene war of genocide on the Palestinians. More than 46,000 have been killed and thousands more bodies will be found in the rubble created by the Israeli Offense Force.
A ceasefire was announced yesterday (15 Jan). It is supposed to start on 19 Jan. Its terms, basically the same as those agreed by Hamas in May 2024, can be found HERE.
Whether the ceasefire will hold is far from certain. As Al Jazeera’s senior political analyst Marwan Bishara explained in this video, Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu is a “war criminal” and cannot be trusted with a ceasefire. Nor can Trump who becomes US president on 20 Jan.
Today THE LEFT LANE displays 15 of the images arising from the war so far.
As for the future, “keep your powder dry” as the Americans say. Or “ be ready to take immediate action in case a situation suddenly gets worse” as a British dictionary tells us.

Israel’s war on Palestinians began long before 2023. This photo by Danny W. near his home in Beersheba in south Israel shows holes in resident walls, after a missile attack 20 meters from the place, in an open area, during the 2008-2009 Israel-Gaza conflict.

The question remains how will Gaza be governed in the short and long term since Hamas cannot be involved ?
